A sewage treatment plant uses bacteria to decompose biomass by oxidizing the biomass into CO2 and H2O. It can treat 1 million liters of water each day. Assuming that there is 200 ppm biomass (essentially [CH2O]), how many liters of dry air would have to be pumped into the plant to provide enough O2 to degrade all the biomass?
The answer to this question is quite simple
Given we have
1 million liters of water each day
Our biomass is 200 ppm
Means we have 200 liters of biomass (ppm=parts per million so for every million liters of water there will be 200 lites of biomass)
Now the biomass decomposition reaction will be
CH2O + O2 --> CO2+ H2O
as we can see from the reaction for every biomass same quantity of oxygen gas is required
(1:1)
Hence 200 liters of fresh water should be pumped in the plant for this process
I hope this helps. If you have any query or want more detailed explanation, feel free to ask in the comments section below.

For the preparation and standardization of NaOH with KHP im supposed to boil water for 1hr and 30 min to remove CO2....the problem is that if I don't boil it for that long and (30 min) b/c of not enough time but I put the water I boiled for 1/2 hr aproximately into a NaOH bottle with a CO2 absorber and stored it there for a few days. I would assume that I would have to boil the water again...but...
10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
