In many other industries, salespersons are only paid the commissions they earn. Why do you think hotel salespersons are rarely, if ever, paid “commission-only” for their efforts?

2. The properties selected to be a part of a specific hotel’s competitive set will strongly affect how the hotel’s sales performance is assessed. Identify at least three hotel characteristics that should be considered when selecting the properties to be included in a hotel’s competitive set.
