My final year project is underground cable fault detecton. kindly guide me about its abstract , project implementation , the proper list of components required required for it. its objectives , and last also guide specify technical details of final delieverable. can this project can be done with pic microcontroller?

**Underground cable fault detection can be made using PIC16F877A microcontroller based upon Ohms law .

In this project we can program the microcontroller to display fault status if detected in wires prototype that resembles cables carrying current . We can create short circuit using manual switches and simultaneously making microcontroller to read the data of current and voltage and match it with pre defined fault limits set by the user .

Now , we can connect an LCD display to show fault staus of phases or connect a GPS module to send message to utility providing remote location status at base station !!

Power supply or rectifier unit made of diodes to convert AC from power socket of lab to DC voltage required by microcontroller and short circuit setup of wires and switches

LCD display for offline status display model or GPS module for distant online status based model .

Switches (single pole double throw ) and resistances and wires to resemble the model of cable .

**You have 3 modules to make to get final assembly as your project

1) Status Display Module : To display fault status if any present . this can be made by GPS with phone or PC display / LCD direct on site display

2) Microcontroller module : Program microcontroller as per fault standards required . Here apply ohms law to determine the voltage and current in wires that can be categorised as fault conditions of whether open/ short circuit . Accordingly , proceed with design of the cables module whose data is being read by microcontroller . Use appropriate resistance wherever required .

3) Power supply module (Diode full wave rectifier)

**Yes , you can use PIC microcontroller for the project but it will be better to use Arduino as it's programming is quite easy and simple to understand .
