You hook a fish to a spring scale to weigh the fish but when you raise it up to see the gauge better, the spring scale slips out of your hand. What is the reading of the scale on its way down to the floor if the spring still has the fish hooked to it: Explain.

Concept – when the spring scale slips out and falls the whole system is in free fall under gravity. Hence the acceleration of the fish and the scale would be equal to acceleration due to gravity. We use this for equation of motion for the fish to find the force exerted on the fish by the scale as shown below to find the reading.
