Reflect upon and provide a brief summary of a personal diversity management issue you may have experienced in your lifetime in relation to ethical treatment in the workplace. Alternatives to a personal experience could also be in the form of a large corporate franchise you have read or seen in media or a small business in a community you have observed.

After coming to Singapore, I got to know from my colleagues that they have to serve their nation for two years. In that two years they had to mingle with people of different race and religion. A sergeant, who would have to treat all his recruits equally and be unbiased to each and every person who he is in charge of. And when it comes to the Ramadan season, the sergeant should not show favoritism towards the Muslim comrades. He should ensure that they will follow their fasting; that is pray on time and get their meals on time as well. When it comes to training everyone should get the same amount, and the Muslims should also be involved so that questions should not rise from the others which would question the integrity.

The management style that is being used in this environment would be commanding, this is where the manager will be obstinate and fair towards the employees in the organization. This style is a very effective one because the employees would have a clear picture of what they need to do and also they got a set of rules to follow. This would bring about discipline and order towards the organization. The employees will have a high morale amongst them as they know that they are treated well and fair.

As a foreigner in Singapore, I was laying out my opportunities after I finish my degree that is when I came across a quota system that is being followed by all the aviation industry. The quota system keeps count of the races and foreigners working in the industry, once the particular quota has been hit the industry will stop hiring. I think that this maybe a bit unfair and unethical not only to foreigners but also to the Singaporeans as they will have to find another job in another industry and they cannot follow their dreams.
