Income based repayment (IBR) has been championed as a way to reduce student loan defaults by allowing repayment schedules to vary with a person's income. However, they have some potential economic consequences. Describe at least two potential problems with IBR.

Income based repayment generally lead to credit risks for example loan repayment is tied to the income ability, however if person remains unemployed for long term the IBR is rendered inefficient and ineffective unless any collateral is mortgaged.

Secondly these plans come with high debt and high interest and could also have tax repurcussions making it ineffective.
