if the element has 4s2 configuration, looses 2 electrons, the electron will be lost from the outer shell that is 4s shell giving a 4s0 configuration having a filled 3p6

for the subdivison B, the ion which been formed will either have to loose 4 electrons or gain 2 electrons. Most preferred one is to gain 2 electrons, which is energetically favored. This electrons occupies 2p subshell giving a 2p6 electronic configuration.
