1.Physical growth during middle childhood:

  • Growth is slow and steady during this phase.
  • Growth spurts characterized by increase in food take can be observed.
  • There is also period of slow growth where food intake decreases.
  • An average of seven pounds of weight will be gained and 2.5 inches of height might increase per year.

Physical growth during late childhood:

  • Rapid growth spurts.
  • Bones harden.
  • Has twenty eight of thirty two teeth.
  • Child may be physically restless.
  • Skills like swimming and bicycle riding develops.

Gross and fine motor skills during middle and late childhood:

  • Running, jumping, climbing and balancing develops.
  • Become faster, stronger and better at physical coordination.
  • Hands are used more precisely for a variety of activities like drawing, writing, clay modelling, etc.
  • Some may learn instruments that require complex fine motor skills.
