MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS
2. What are some of the advantages of powder metallurgy compared to typical bulk deformation, e.g. forging: (a) generally higher material strength, (b) generally better surface quality, (c) higher dimensional accuracy, (d) more material options, (e) higher production rate.
3. Which of the following surface processing methods are typically utilized to enhance the wear resistance of materials: (a) nitriding, (b) zinc electroplating, (c) electropolishing, (d) anodizing, (e) physical vapor deposition, (f) galvanizing.
Please help with these MC questions. Thanks!
Solution 2:
Advantages of powder metallurgy over bulk deformation are Better
surface quality, higher dimensional accuracy, more material options
& high production rate. this is because in case of bulk
deformation like forging surfaces often get damaged due to sudden
impact and precise dimensional control cannot be achieved as it is
carried at macroscopic level where macroscopic forces are used
directly for deformation. Also, powder mettalurgy is flexible in
sense that all materials cannot undergo bulk deformation( like
brittle ones). Moreover bulk deformation is carried discretely
while powder mettalurgical operations allows multiple materials to
be treated simultanously giving high production rate.
Solution3:
Nitriding is used for increasing hardness of materials hence increasing wear resistance of materials, rest process are used for increasing corrosion resistance of materials.
