Image you conducted an experiment to test whether or not a horror movie can change people’s emotion states. A pre-test of negative emotion was taken before seeing the movie, and a post-test of negative emotion was taken five minutes after seeing the movie. Conduct a paired-sample T test on the following data.

Answer #1

Hypothesis:

H0: There is no change in negative emotions post test.

H1: There is a change in negative emotions post test.

Test-Statistics:

For paired t-test : mean of difference /S.E(mean of difference) ; S.E(mean of difference)= S.D(diff)/sqrt(n) ~t 3,0.025

From the above calculations we can see that the value of T-statistic comes out to be 8.521 (approx)

Two tailed tabulated value for T3,0.025 is equal to  3.182446305 , since the calculated T-value is greater than the tabulated T-value , We have sufficient evidence to reject our null hypothesis at 5% level of significance.

Therefore there is a significant difference in the negative emotion levels after watching the horror movie at 5% level of significance.

    3. [20 marks] A double-blind randomised experiment investigated whether consumption of oligofructose would stimulate calcium absorption in healthy human males aged 14 to 16 years. Two sets of pills were prepared, identical in appearance and packaging. One set contained oligofructose and the other set contained ordinary sucrose (i.e., a placebo). The experiment ran in two rounds, with the second round starting 3 weeks after the first ended. Subjects were randomly assigned to either receive oligofructose in the first round and...

Use the following problem, data set, and SPSS outputs to answer questions 16-21 You conduct a study to examine whether the beverage a person drinks affects their willingness to socialize. You select 21 people at the mall and randomly give them Water, Coffee, or Gasoline. 10 minutes after they drink you ask them to rank their willingness to socialize on a scale of 1-10. You predict that compared to Water drinking Coffee will make people feel more sociable and that...
