Answer-

Mechanical and Physical properties:

Mechanical properties- Mechanical properties are basically metal performance when different forces are applied to it.

Example: hardness of the material, tensile strength, modulus of elasticity and elongation.

Physical properties- These are the measurable properties without changing the composition of materials.

Example: melting point, density, conductivity and boiling point, mass, etc.

Mechanical and Physical Properties of Steel:

  • Steam and chemical plant operates at 450-550degreeC
  • Gas turbine pipes work at the higher temperatures.
  • Yield-strength of steel at 600 degreeC is higher than ambient temperature by 2/3.
  • Steel remains undamaged till a pressure of 165 ft depth, can be used for dishwashing and swimming.
  • The aging of material can harm the steel's waterproofness.

Mechanical and Physical Properties of Beryllium(Be):

  • It's a hard, brittle metal that has a melting point around 1560 K.
  • Also, have a high modulus of elasticity that is 50% greater than steel.
  • Beryllium is relatively soft and has a low density.
  • It is a very light and very stiff.
  • Be is transparent to x-rays.
  • Be reacts with acids and with water to form hydrogen gas.

Mechanical and Physical Properties of Plastic:

  • Plastic can withstand up to 100degreeC, but polyethylene terephthalate(PET) has a melting point 255degreeC.
  • Mostly, plastics contain carbon content that burns and gives smoke when comes in contact with flame.
  • Plastic is waterproof because of its structure that structure provides water repellant property(contains polymeric chains).
  • Thermoplastic has a larger coefficient of thermal expansion.
