Answer #1

The distribution of this waiting time can be a negative binomial distribution

Our waiting time is till n red or n blue balls are drawn , this can be termed as number of trials before nth success

Let X be the number of balls drawn before nth success that is nth red (say) drawn

p is the probability of drawing a red ball

Then probability distribution of X is

Let Y be the number of balls drawn before nth success that is nth blue drawn

p is the probability of drawing a blue ball

Then probability distribution of Y is

Probability distribution of waiting time for nth blue or red ball is

Urn A contains two red balls and eight blue balls. Urn B contains two red balls and ten green balls. An urn contains 6 red, 9 green, and 11 blue balls. The following is repeated 3 times: a ball is selected from the urn at random and removed (called “sampling without replacement”). Give your answers to 3 significant digits. (a) What is the probability that all 3 selected balls are the same color? (b) What is the probability that all 3 selected balls are different colors? An urn contains four red balls, two green balls, and three yellow balls. Three balls will be drawn from the urn, one at a time, at random. If the balls are drawn with replacement, what is the probability the first is red, the second is green, and the third is yellow?
