Concentrated sugar solution is produced by using an evaporator to boil off water from cane solution. A feed of 20,000 kg/day of a solution containing 20 weight % sugar is evaporated, producing 74 weight % product. What is the weight of solution produced and amount of water removed? Also, what is the mole fraction of the original feed solution and the product solution? Assume sugar is glucose.

4, A solution of sugar in water is to be concentrated from 5.0 wt.% sugar to 20.0 wt% sugar. The solution is at about 45 C when it is fed continuously to a bubble column. Air at 45°C and a dew point of 20°C is bubbled through the column very slowly so that it emerges saturated. The humidification of the air can be considered adiabatic. How many m/h of air must be fed to process 100 kg/h of the entering...

As a food sweetener, often sugar is replaced with the low calorie replacement aspartame. The trade names for aspartame are numerous and include Equal, NutraSweet and others Aspartame is also used as a sweetener for diet sodas. Determine the solubility of aspartame in water as grams of aspartame per 100 g of water at 5 °C, 25 C, and 60 °C using the data in the table below. 1. % water, the rest of the liquor stream is solids. Beet molasses contains 50 wt% sucrose, 1.0 wt% dextrose, and 18 wt% water, the rest of the molasses stream contains solid. Beet molasses is mixed with corn-steep liquor and water in a mixing tank to produce a dilute sugar mixture. The exit stream contains 2.0 wt%, dextrose and 12.6 wt% sucrose and is ready to be fed into a fermentation unit. See Figure 3.26. (Adapted from Doran PM, Bioprocess Engineering...

In this equation for specific rotation of a solution: a is the observed rotation in degrees, is the path length in decimetres, c is the concentration in g mL-1, Tis the temperature at which the measurement was taken in °C, and A is the wavelength in nanometres. You used variable path lengths for the polarised light (589 nm) to pass through, and you obtained the fol solutions (A, B, C, D and E) at variable concentrations. observed rotation data...
