A van has 7 seats in it. One is the driver's seat, with another seat next to the driver's seat. Out of the 6 adults getting into the car, if only 2 adults are licensed to drive, and if someone has to sit next to the driver's seat, what is the number of ways that the seating can be arranged?

The driver's seat can be filled from among the 2 adults licensed to drive in 2 ways.

The seat next to driver's seat can be filled by any of the remaining 5 adults in 5 ways.

Now, as the van has total of 7 seats, 5 seats are still vacant but we have only 4 adults remaining.

Thus, 4 seats can be selected from 5 seats in 5C4 ways

And the 4 adults can occupy those seats in 4! ways.

Thus, total number of ways the seating can be arranged

= 2 * 5 * 5C4 * 4! = 1200
