A flow meter and variable speed pump have just been installed on the flow line for the concentrate thickener. The variable speed pump has been installed near the mixing tank and the magnetic flow meter has been installed at the dosing point of the thickener. The distance between the reagent mixing tanks and the concentrate thickener is 730 m.

A step test is performed to obtain the dynamic response of the flow to a change in pump speed. The full scale of the flow controller measurement is 500 L/min and the full scale for the controller output is 100%. The response is shown below in Figure 1. Manually characterize the response curve to determine the process gain (Kp), time constant (p) and dead time (tD). Show your working. (5 marks)
