Answer #1

Impulse = Change in momentum

=M×(v2-v1)

= 0.05×(44 - 0) = 2.2 kg m/s

    PRACTICE IT Use the worked example above to help you solve this problem. A golf ball with mass 5.70 x 10 2 kg is struck with a club as shown in the figure above. The force on the ball varies from zero when contact is made up to some maximum value (when the ball is maximally deformed) and then back to zero when the ball leaves the club, as in the graph of force vs. time in the figure below....

    a. The mass of a golf ball is .046 kg; the mass of a club head is .28 kg; and, the velocity of the club head is 55 m/s before it impacts the ball. If the coefficient of restitution of the ball is .82, how fast is the ball moving after impact? A 1.62-ounce golf ball is hit with a golf club and leaves it with a velocity of 120 mi/h. We assume that for Oststo, where to is the duration of the impact, the magnitude F of the force exerted on the ball can be expressed as F = Fmsin( Ti/to). Knowing that to = 0.5 ms, determine the maximum value Fm of the force exerted on the ball. (Round the final answer to two decimal places.) The maximum value Fm...

    The head of a golf club (of mass 250 g) is traveling at 44 m/s just before it strikes a 50 g golf ball (which is initially at rest). After the collision, the club head travels (in the same direction) at 36 m/s. a) Assuming momentum is conserved in the collision, find the speed of the golf ball just after the impact.
