When you start programming in languages like Java, C#, C++, etc., you will have two options: use a full-blown IDE like Eclipse or Visual Studio or a basic text editor like Notepad or vI, if you are a Linux user. Do IDEs help or hinder newbies learning to code? Should they first be exposed to a text editor without a lot of fancy features to learn how to set things up? What is your opinion?

-> Yes, IDEs help or hinder newbies learning to code due to its helping code like intellisense(code completion aid) ,predefined structure or code,colors of function ,keywords and supporting properties like if there is error it shows underline below that statement.

Should they first be exposed to a text editor without a lot of fancy features to learn how to set things up?

->Yes they should first be exposed to text editor without a lot of fancy features to learn how to set things up because

for newbies they have to understand each and every line of code without predefined structure like intellisense or supportive properties which help to prevent or make errors .If they use text editor then it will be difficult at the beginning to do but at time they will understand how to find errors by themselves and will understand code more deeply.
