suppose

  • The speed of the given link 1 Gbps = (1 Gbits/ 8 bits)

                                                              = 125 MB/s.

  • The Sequence number countryside in TCP header is of 32 bit long.

therefore,

  • The sequence number wrap around when 232 B of data sent, i.e. 4 GB of data. For the given link, wrap around will be (4 GB) / (125 MB/sec) = 32 seconds.

B:

  • Incrementing every 32 ms i.e 32secs/1000
  • it will take about 32*4*109 ms, otherwise about four years for the known time stamp to wrap approximately.
