Please write a 4 paragraph persuasive business letter following the AIDA format: Attention, Interest, Desire, and Action. Please include a minimum of 20 sentences.

The GAU Board Committee is considering changing its examination policy. They are considering canceling the midterm exam and requiring homework and / or quizzes and a final exam only.

Write a persuasive letter to the GAU Board Committee persuading them why you are "for" or "against" this new policy consideration. Include three to four reasons that will persuade the GAU Board of Commissioners on why they should or should not remove the midterm exam.

The AIDA Model is a method for framing a persuasive argument (4 paragraphs):

Paragraph 1. Attention: Open your message by getting the audience's attention about the topic. Address the Board and thank them for allowing students to participate. State your opinion/argument in this paragraph, either you are for or against the Board’s consideration.

Paragraph 2. Interest: Build interest with facts, detail and additional benefits (2 reasons)

. Paragraph 3. Desire: Answer possible objections (1 opposite reason) and increase desire by providing more evidence for your original argument (the third and fourth reasons).

Paragraph 4. Action: Motivate your reader for a specific action (to agree with your position).

GAU Board Committee

(Address of GAU Board Committee)

Date : 5th, Jan 2020

Sub : Reviewing the decision of changing the examination policy

This is in reference to your idea of changing the examination policy and cancelling the midterm exam and replacing it with homework and quizzes. Though the committee would have thought of taking this decision after a good amount of research and reasoning I would like to put up to you my points which go against this idea of finishing the midterm exams from the examination format.

As you will agree with the benefits of examinations to the students and on the whole to the education system. They help to evaluate each student on an equal and fair basis and lets the student and teacher know the capability and knowledge each one possesses. Midterm exams just add to these benefits gained from the examination process. They lessen the burden of students by dividing the course into half and makes the process of examining easy with less pressure by having two exams in a year instead of one. Examination increases learning skills, concentration and discipline and hence allow a person to develop these traits. Midterm exams only allow these skills to develop more than once in a year. Though homework and quizzes are other ways of examining the learning of students, they cannot be an as effective evaluation tool as exams.

It is very clear that without an exam pressure the student does not develop that routine of learning and testing self skills and knowledge. Exams provide a goal for which student will work harder and aim to grow academically. Having these exams twice a year will enhance these attributes in the students. Though midterm exams can also be difficult for students who take excessive pressure on exams, to the level of harming their mental and physical health. It will only make them go through that difficult phase more than once a year. But if students with such issues are managed and midterm exams are taken as a positive practice of self-assessment and growth, they will be beneficial for all.

With the reasons mentioned above, I would request you to give another thought to your decision of replacing midterm exams with any other practice and let the pattern of midterm and final exams remain the way it is. Although quizzes and assignments can be included in the syllabus and the marking can be divided into these activities and the midterm exams instead of replacing the midterm exams with these activities.

Hope you will give it a thought and take the ultimate decision accordingly.

Thank you

Yours sincerely
