A study on student success in college examines whether mandatory mentoring in the first year of college reduces anxiety experienced by students. To address this question 150 students are randomly selected to participate in a mentoring program their first year of college. These 150 students are given a questionnaire and anxiety is measured on a 1-20 scale where 1 is the most anxiety and 20 is the least anxiety. This sample is compared to the known anxiety for students who don’t receive mentoring. Anxiety in the population is known to be positively skewed, with a mean of 12 and a standard deviation of 2.
