As the manager of a local chain of coffeehouses, you have been asked to speak to a gourmet group about how to make genuine Italian cappuccino. As you write down your ideas for your speech, you find that you have the following main points.

1.       First you must make the espresso.

2.       Grind the coffee beans so they are fine but not too fine.

3.       Place the grounds coffee in the filter holder of the espresso machine.

4.       Taps the coffee once lightly to level the grind in the filter holder.

5.       Lock the filter holder onto the brew head of the espresso machine.

6.       Activate the one switch to extract the espresso.

7.       In addition to making the espresso, you must prepare the frothed mild for cappuccino.

8.       Fill a steaming pitcher 1/3 full of very cold milk.

9.       Place the steam vent of the espresso machine just below the surface of the milk in the pitcher.

10.   Fully open the steam vent.

11.   Keeping the tip of the steam vent just below the surface of the milk, move the pitcher in a circular motion.

12.   Be careful not to overheat or scald the mild, which will ruin the froth.

13.   Once you have the desired amount and consistency of froth, turn the steam vent off and remove it from the pitcher.

14.   Now you are ready to combine the espresso and frothed milk.

15.   The normal proportions for cappuccino are 1/3 espresso to 2/3 frothed milk.  

16.   Some people prefer to pour the espresso into the frothed milk in a cappuccino cup.

17.   Other people prefer to pour or spoon the frothed milk over the espresso.

Having taken a speech class in college, you know this is too many main points for an audience to follow. As you look over your list, however, you realize that it can easily be reorganized into three main points, with several sub-points. What are those main points and subpoints?

Answer. A good speech is one in which there are limited points but all are to the point and cover all the information the audience requires. In your coffee speech there are plenty of points and they need to be organised. These can be divided into three main points with the sub points :-

1. EXPRESSO MAKING

a. Grind the beans so that they are fine but not too fine.

b. Place the grinded coffee in the filter holder of the expresso machine.

c. Tap the coffee once lightly , to level the coffee powder in the filter holder.

d. Lock the filter holder of the expresso machine.

e. Switch on the switch to extract the expresso.

2. FROTHED MILK

a. Fill a steaming pitcher 1/3 full of very cold milk.

b. Place the steam vent of the expresso machine just below the surface of the milk in the pitcher.

c. Fully open the steam vent and keep the tip of the steam vent just below the surface of the milk, move the pitcher in circular motion.

d. Be careful, do not overheat or scald the milk. This can ruin the froth.

e. Once you got the desired amount and consistency of froth, turn the steam vent off and remove it from the pitcher.

3. MIXING OF EXPRESSO AND FROTHED MILK - CAPPUCCINO

a. Now you can mix the two . The normal proportions for cappuccino are 1/3 expresso and 2/3 froth milk. Some people prefer to pour the expresso into the frothed milk in a cappuccino cup or other people prefer to pour or spoon the frothed milk over the expresso.
