How should legislators make decisions? Should they fulfill the role as a trustee, delegate, or politico?
Answer: A legislator should play the role of a politico. The legislators are elected by the people for representing their views in the parliament. Hence they are the agents or delegates of the people who elected them and therefore they should represent them and put forward their views and act as per their will. The legislators also need to act as the trustee and make decisions that are based on the merits and de-merits of the question they face. Their opinion and decisions need to be rational and should be independent of the biased opinions. A politico is a person who has the ability to create a balance between the roles like a trustee, delegate and also a partisan. Therefore it is best suited that a legislator should act as a politico where he could manage all the expected roles and keep everyone happy. It is the job of a legislator to look after the interests of all stakeholders so that social harmony is not disturbed.
