Answer #1

The factors that affect the vapor pressure of the liquid :

a) Surface area of the liquid : No, it does not affect the vapor pressure of the liquid. It is independent of surface area because increase in surface area increases turning into vapors from the liquid. The ratio of mass of vapor/mass of liquid remains constant without any change.

b) Addition of solute : Yes, it has affect on the vapor pressure of the liquid because addition of solute like non volatile solutes decreases vapor pressure of the liquid according to Raoult's law.

These non volatile solute does not allow liquid to evaporate and does not contribute the vapor pressure of the solution.

c) Temperature : Yes, when temperature increases vapor pressure of the liquid increases because the heat energy applied increases the kinetic energy and helps in breaking the intermolecular forces. Due to which liquid molecules are easy to evaporate from surface of the liquid. This increases the vapor pressure

d) Type of liquid : Yes, because based on the type of liquid the strength of intermolecular forces are dependent. If there are weak intermolecular forces then they are easy to evaporate than strong intermolecular forces liquid molecule.

e) Atmospheric pressure : No, It does not have affect on vapor pressure but helps in determining the vapor pressure at the time of boiling

f) Amount of liquid : No, it does not have an affect on vapor pressure of the liquid because increase in the amount increases surface area which turn into vapors from the liquid also increases. The ratio of mass of vapor/mass of liquid remains constant without any change.

Hello, I need help solving the 3 parts of this question. Part - Factors affecting the dissolution process The rate at which a solute dissolves in a solvent depends on the kinetic energy of the soluton, theme of contact and the surface area of contact between the solute and the solvent particles. Both endothermic and exothermic dissolution processes will respond similarly to each factor, however the charge may be more pronounced depending on the thermodynamic penters of the reaction. As...
