Risk management wrt requirements engineering:
Definition:

  • Risk management is the process of identifying risk, assessing risk, and taking steps to reduce risk to an acceptable level.
  • In software engineering, risk is usually considered and analyzed during, or even after, the system design.
  • Countermeasures are elaborated and then accommodated as a refinement of the design, when a limited number of changes are still possible and they may introduce the problem of revisiting the initial requirements.
  • Software development is activity that uses a variety of technological advancements. Because of these and other factors, every software development project contains elements of uncertainty. This is known as project risk.
  • Hence Risk analysis is an important part of the software engineering process.
