As part of a physics experiment, you stand on a bathroom scale in an elevator. Though your normal weight is 630 N , the scale at the moment reads 710 N .

Part A

Is the acceleration of the elevator upward, downward, or zero?

Part B

Explain

Part C

Calculate the magnitude of the elevator's acceleration.

Express your answer using two significant figures.

Part D

What, if anything, can you say about the velocity of the elevator? Explain.

Answer #1

as the weight increased so the acceleration must be upwards.

=====

b)

apparent weight of the mass in upward direction is

W = m ( g +a)

in the part(a) its given that object weight increases, it means that "a" must be a non zero positive quantity hence acceleration is along uowrad direction

=====

c)

710 = 630 + (630/9.8) a

a = 1.244 m/s^2

=====

d)

velocity may by upward or may be downward.

we can't specifically say about the direction of velocity
