There are few instances in which no taxable income is recognized from cancellation which are as follows:

1. Certain student loans

2. Gifts or bequests

3. Debts canceled due to insolvency

There are following canceled debt that is considered taxable income which are excluded from taxable income and we called it exception to cancellations of debt income:

1. If there is any cancellation of qualified principal residence indebtedness happened before Jan 1, 2018.

2. If debt is canceled under Title 11 bankruptcy.

3. If some insolvency happened.

4. If qualified farm indebtedness happened due to cancellation.

5. If qualified real property business indebtedness gets canceled.
