Assume you are dealt the following hand in poker: K of hearts, Q of hearts, 10 of spades, 3 hearts, 7 clubs.

For this set of problems, we are keeping both the K and Q of hearts. So, If you keep the King and Queen of hearts find:

  1. P (getting a pair of Kings and/or Queens)…be sure to exclude the probability of getting either three or four Kings or Queens. Also consider the probability of one or two pairs.
  2. P(3 Kings or 3 Queens)…be sure to exclude the probability of a full house or four of a kind
  3. P(full house) i.e. 3K/2Q or 2Q/3K
  4. P(4 of a kind) ie. 4 K or 4 Q
  5. P(straight) ..be sure to consider both 9-King and 10-Ace
  6. P(flush in hearts)
  7. P(straight flush)…be sure to consider both 9-K and 10-Ace

Suppose you decide to keep the King of hearts and the Queen of Hearts, and the 3 of hearts, find:

  1. P(flush in hearts)
  2. P(pair of Kings or a pair of Queens or a pair of both Queens and Kings)
  3. P(3-Kings or 3-Queens)

Finally, If you keep the King of hearts, the Queen of hearts and the 10 of spades, find:

  1. P(Straight)…be sure to consider both 9-King and 10-Ace.
