The lengths of major league baseball games are approximately normally distributed and average 2 hours and 50.1 minutes (170.1 minutes), with a population standard deviation of 18 minutes. It has been claimed that New York Yankee baseball games last, on the average, longer than the games of the other major league teams. To test the truth of this statement, a sample of eight Yankee games were randomly identified and the "time of the game" (in minutes) for each obtained.

At the 0.05 level of significance, does this data show sufficient evidence to conclude that the mean time of Yankee baseball games is longer than that of other major league baseball teams?

(a) The alternate hypothesis is: Ha: μ  ---Select--- =170.1 <170.1  >170.1 ≠ 170.1
(b) Find the p-value. (Give your answer correct to four decimal places.)

(c) State the appropriate conclusion.

The p-value is < α = 0.05; Reject H0; there is sufficient evidence to support the contention that Yankee games, on the average, last longer than games of Major League Baseball.

The p-value is > α = 0.05; Reject H0; there is sufficient evidence to support the contention that Yankee games, on the average, last longer than games of Major League Baseball.

The p-value is > α = 0.05; Fail to reject H0; there is not sufficient evidence to support the contention that Yankee games, on the average, last longer than games of Major League Baseball.

The p-value is < α = 0.05; Fail to reject H0; there is not sufficient evidence to support the contention that Yankee games, on the average, last longer than games of Major League Baseball.

Attendance at minor league baseball games continues to increase. For the most recent year, the average attendance at a minor league baseball game was 3,530. Halfway through the current season, the league conducted a sample to see if attendance was greater than last year. A sample of 92 games showed an average attendance of 3,740 per game with a sample standard deviation of 810. At a confidence level of .01, what is your conclusion?

Suppose a random sample of 36 games is taken from the population. What is the approximate probability that average game length will be greater than 3.15 hours or less than 2.75 hours?
