Answer #1

Answer:

All esterification reactions are equilibrium processes.

Explanation:

Carboxylic acid reacts with alcohol in the presence of acid catalyst and heat to give ester and water. This reaction is called as esterification reaction.

The formed ester and water again can react in presence of acid catalyst and heat to give back carboxylic acid and alcohol. That is why Esterification reactions are equilibrium processes.

In the esterification process, removal of -OH from carboxylic acid is very difficult.A lot of energy is needed to remove -OH group from carboxylic acid. For the above reason, heat and acid catalyst are used.

Sulphuric acid is normally used as acid catalyst. This speeds up the reaction and acts as dehydrating agent. That means it will remove water formed in the reaction. It will force the equilibrium to the right .Yield of ester will be more.
