Suppose that you have 119 students in a class and you want to obtain a sample of them of size 50. You number the students from 1 to 119, make R select random numbers from between 1 and 119 until you get 50 different ones, and then put the people identified by those 50 different numbers into the sample.

3) [10 marks] Is this a random sample in the strict sense, an as-if random sample, or a sample that has an important flaw? Explain, briefly.

Answer #1

we can consider this a random sample if the numbers are picked randomly but we know that in computers the random number function doesn't give completely random sample but rather the random numbers generated follow some pattern so this may not be a strictly random sample.
