The median number of magazine appearances made by 7 models is 5. So, 50% of the models have magazine experience more than 5 and 50% has less than 5. The range of 5 indicates the differnece between the maximum and minimum number of magazine appearance is 5.

If the fewest magazine appearances is 3 and the greatest number of appearances is 9, then the range would be (9-3) = 6, which contradicts the statement that the range is 5.

Hence, the statement is false.
