Unfortunately, to ride your bike, you must donn your 130 kg space suit and life support system. Assuming your mass to be 60 kg, the bike’s mass to be 15 kg, and the frictional coefficient of the tires against the Martian soil is 0.4 (approximately the same as on Earth), (a). How much more work must you do on a level surface, to go from rest to a speed of 5 m/s on Mars compared to Earth? (b). If you had to ascend 200 m on Mars or on Earth, which would involve more work against gravity? (c). Given your answers to (a). and (b). estimate which would require more total work, a 200 m ascent on Mars or on Earth.
