A branch of mining company plans to sell two types of GRANITE at

costs of $250/ton and $400/ton, respectively. The $250/ton product

yields a profit of $40 and the $400/ton product yields a profit of $55.

The company estimates that the total monthly demand of Granite will

not exceed 250 tons. Find the number of tons of each product that

should be stocked in order to maximize the profit. Assume that the

company does not want to invest more than $100,000 in this quarry.

Answer #1

Objective function refers to the function that is either maximized or minimized. The constraints may be equalities or inequalities. So, in linear programming problems, linear objective functions are minimized or maximized which is subject to linear constraints. Thus, in a linear programming problem the objective function and the constraints must be linear functions of the decision variables.
