Besides transfering, what are some sources of product loss during reflux, using a rotovap, and recrystallization?
As you said the main source of error or loss of product during both of this method is transferring but along with it there is a different source odf loss in both of this method
No matter how less the temperature is there will be slight solubility of the sample to be determined in the solvents used for this method .
If special care is not taken and ice cold water is not used for the recrystallization of the product the product to be recrystallized becomes soluble in solvent and hence we get very minimum or no yield .
Same is the case for rotavap .
So these unwanted solubility in the solvent even at low temperature is major source of error besides transferring .
I hope this helps if you have any query or want more detailed explanation feel free to ask in the comment section below.

During the total synthesis, you attempt to purify your target product by recrystallization using ethanol. You gently heat the solution until all of your crude product has dissolved. You try scratching the bottom of your flask, but that is also unsuccessful. What should you do to recover your target product so you can attempt the recrystallization again?
Hey can I please get some help to complete this worksheet that is based on Synthesis and Recrystallization of Dibenzalacetone lab. 4. If you were to measure the melting point prior to recrystallization, what would you expect (compared to the melting point of the recrystallized product)? As. Comment of the purity of the product 6. Describe the color of the product. What is responsible for this color? iǐne (for 낙 product is aAbrrǐut yellow. A 7. Functional group questions: What...
Question 3 20 pts In the recrystallization step, all of product is recovered and nothing is loss during the process. O True False
During recrystallization, you allow your product to form solid crystals slowly upon cooling. Why?
Methanol and water mixtures were found to be suitable for recrystallization based upon solubility test results for the reaction product mix. Explain why this might not be a good idea besides the yield may suffer (why?) or mixed solvents are difficult to work with. Here are the procedures for the lab if this helps: Synthesis of Nitrated Phenylacetic Acid The instructor will assign each student to either 90% fuming nitric acid or 70% nitric acid. **** 90% fuming nitric acid...
1) what is the benefit to performing a recrystallization to isolate a product as opposed to simply evaporating the solvent and recovering the product? 2) what shoul melting point always be reported as a range rather than as a single temperature?
What are the factors that affect the recrystallization temperature of metals? Using the rule of thumb equation for recrystallization of metals talked about in class, estimate the approximate recrystallization temperature of chromium, silver and cadmium. From your answers in B, explain why does cadmium not work harden when deformed?
What do you expect the temperature of the reaction to be during reflux? Why?
What are some benefits of using coal and biomass to liquid (CBTL)? If possible, link sources!
What are the advantages of using a solvent pair for recrystallization? Select all that apply. What are the advantages of using a solvent pair for recrystallization? Select all that apply. You can quickly make the solution supersaturated by adding more of the solvent with greater dissolving power. You can calculate the precise amounts of the solvents needed for recrystallization.
