According to the data, Wal-Mart is successful because of its world based supply chain department. Thus, Wal-Mart is accepted in the world as the global giant in supply chain of the products. According to the supply chain digest, Wal-Mart operates 11,700 stores in 28 countries with 2.3 million employees. The company holds $32 billion dollar inventory.
Their best supply chain strategy is vendor managed inventory or VMI in which supplier take care of their products and vendor’s take care of their restocking needs. With the help of this process Wal-Mart is 100% successful in customer demands fulfillments. In 1989 Wal-Mart has been declared as the retailer of the decade and the company is still in the number one position in retailing and supplying goods.
Another reason behind their success is the company has a profound strategic inventory. It has a long practiced strategic group which somehow manages to find products from the supplier at the best prices. The company purchase high volume of products at the lowest prices.
