Answer #1

Here, μ = 23, σ = 4 and x = 17. We need to compute P(X >= 17). The corresponding z-value is calculated using Central Limit Theorem

z = (x - μ)/σ
z = (17 - 23)/4 = -1.5

Therefore,
P(X >= 17) = P(z <= (17 - 23)/4)
= P(z >= -1.5)
= 1 - 0.0668
= 0.9332

    12. A pain reliever currently being used in a hospital is known to bring relief to patients in 3.5 minutes, on average. To compare a new painelevr with the one currently in use, researchers administer the new drug to a random sample of fifty patients. They hope that the new drug will be effective in reducing the mean time until a patient receives relief from pain. The mean time to relief for the sample of patients is 2.8 minutes with...
