A copper strip (n = 8.47 1022 electrons per cubic centimeter) 2 cm wide and 0.05 cm thick is used to measure the magnitudes of unknown magnetic fields that are perpendicular to the strip. Find the magnitude of B for the following Hall voltages when I = 21 A.

(a) VH = 2.00 µV
T

(b) VH = 5.25 µV

Answer #1

The field B is given as

B = V * t * e * n / I

where V is hall voltage, I is current, t is thickness and e is charge,

so,

(a) For V = 2 uV = 2e-6 V

B = 0.6453 T

(b) For V = 5.25 uV

B = 1.694 T

(c) For V = 8 uV

B = 2.581 T
