Answer #1

Laying off employees from a company can be difficult and very stressful. This emotional process is being done mostly the HR professionals due to changes in a company's strategies. It is no doubt that during the laid-off process many employees are being treated unfairly but the professionals had to do so for the sake of the company. So, one of the best ways is to be rational throughout the process and have a complete understanding of the entire process to cope up with the situation.

Criteria for laying off employees:-

Choosing the process of laying off is totally depending upon the HR professionals and the professionals have to do a tough job for the company's long term sustainability and productivity. There are some ways by which HR can layoff the employees ethically and in a fair method.

a) One of the criteria by which a company can layoff it's employees is based on the seniority level of the employees. That means employees who have worked for many years have a greater chance to survive the layoff than those who have less experience in the company. This can be an ethical way as every employee can understand the process without keeping their morale down.

b) Another criterion of ethical lay off is when employees are being laid off based on their merit and skills. That means employees who have greater skills and merit can survive the layoff and those who lack some skills may have to leave the company. This way employees would also not feel bad for their co-workers who have been laid off.

Hope this helps :)
