Answer #1

What is Technology Assisted Review (TAR)

TAR is an approach used as an automated document review process. It works on Artificial Intelligence (AI) by which it employs Predictive coding to check whether documents contain content of responsive type. But Human reviewers needed to help the TAR application software . Human reviewers have to code or tag documents which will be loaded into the TAR application software.

Any Alternative technology for TAR?

Currently there are no alternative technologies to leverage TAR solutions since TAR is a good approach implemented using Machine Learning.

TAR is an approach emerging in the past few years for usage and approved by courts. But still it needs human reviewers. Though there is a myth that human reviewers are better than TAR, TAR is more accurate in identifying responsive documents , study by David C.Blair and M.E.Maron.

More over most of the organizations not aware of the capabilities of TAR and use human reviews as an alternative.

Current disadvantage of TAR technology or software is that it needs human reviewers to code or tag documents as it applies supervised Learning. Supervised Learning means that the machine model has to learn from train data fed in by human reviewers . It means that the machine learns from the data and uses the knowledge to predict .

To conclude , alternative technologies have to be developed to leverage as TAR solution in future which has to implement unsupervised learning which does not learn anything before meaning that no training data. It should need the help of human reviewers . There are no alternative technologies for TAR apart from manual human review ,though currently continuous active learning is there which learns from background on human reviewers coding of documents and analyses those.
