Human intelligence HUMINT) Any intelligence information gathered from or produced by human sources or individuals, i.e. spies, HUMINT teams, verbal communication. 2.) Signals intelligence (SIGINT) Any sort of information or intelligence gathered from any electronic means of gathering information, i.e. from radio transmissions, phone calls, text messages. This is typically broken out into two sub-disciplines: COMINT (Communications Intelligence) - electronic communications between individuals and ELINT - (Electronic Intelligence) or collection of electronic signals by nonhuman communications (i.e. geolocation of targets, etc). 3.) Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) - Includes information gathered through photographs, maps, and other terrain descriptions or imagery. GEOINT is most commonly utilized through Imagery intelligence (IMINT). This includes photographic or map information generated and collected through aircraft (unmanned or manned), or satellites flying over an area of interest (AOI). 4.) Measurement and Signatures Intelligence (MASINT) - This type of intelligence discipline creates products from information from unintended electromagnetic emissions generated by various sources. These products are often paired with SIGINT information to study emissions generated by enemy systems. 5.) Intelligence collection management is the process of managing and organizing the collection of intelligence from various sources. The collection department of an intelligence organization may attempt basic validation of what it collects but is not supposed to analyze its significance.

Discipline Selection : When a Priority Intelligence Requirement defining the information to be collected exists, discipline specialists and resource schedulers select the appropriate collection system and plan the mission, taking into account the capabilities and limitations of collection platforms. Weather, terrain, technical capabilities and opponents' countermeasures determine the potential for successful collection. Through an understanding of all available platforms to maximize capabilities.
