Question

Given the following information: acetic acid CH3COOH Ka = 1.8×10-5 triethylamine (C2H5)3N Kb = 5.2×10-4 (1)...

Given the following information:

acetic acid CH3COOH Ka = 1.8×10-5
triethylamine (C2H5)3N Kb = 5.2×10-4

(1) Write the net ionic equation for the reaction that occurs when equal volumes of 0.193 M aqueous  acetic acid and triethylamine are mixed. It is not necessary to include states such as (aq) or (s).

_______ + _______ = _________ + _________

(2) At equilibrium the _________reactantsproducts will be favored.

(3) The pH of the resulting solution will be _________greater thanequal toless than seven.

Answer #1

Answer: part (1) and (2) is shown in the image attached:

Part(3) To calculate pH of solution made by mixing weak acid and weak base of equal volume and concentration is given by the equation of salt Hydrolysis

As pH = 1/2 ( pKw + pKa + pKb )

= 1/2 ( 14 + 4.74 - 3.284)

= 7.728

so pH of solution is greater than 7 .
