Answer #1
Isotonic solution: Solutions which have the same Osmotic pressure at the same temperature are isotonic.According to van't Hoff theory the isotonic solution should have same concentration.
π = i C RT
π - osmotic pressurei - van't Hoff factorC - concentration of thesolutionR - gas constantT -absolute temperature
Given information:The concentration ofNaCl = 0.15 M ( Beaker A )osmotic pressure is samefor both solutionsvan't Hoff factor( i ) for NaCl = 2
Theconcentration of the solution = ? ( Beaker B)osmotic pressure is same as beaker Avan't hoff factor ( i) for a solution = ?
If the solution is NaCl than the concentration should be of 0.15 M to attain the condition of isotonic.
If the solution is non-electrolyte i.e. (i) = 1 than the concentration of the solution should be 0.30 Mto have same osmotic pressure.
