A continuous time filter is placed in front of a discrete time system to prevent aliasing. So this filter is also called Anti-aliasing filter.

The input is appropriate and does not cause any aliasing, if the input signal is filtered such that it does not have any higher frequencies greater than nyquist frequency.

Here the sampling frequency is,

fs = 1 kHz.

So, the cutoff frequency of the filter is,

fc = fs/2 = 1 kHz/2 =500 Hz.

Therefore, the filter should be a low pass filter with cutoff frequency 500 Hz.

The filter rejects all the frequncies above 500 Hz.
