What is the difference between a One sample t-test, Unpooled t-test, Pooled t-test, Paired t-test, and Mann Whitney U test? How do you know when to use each test?

One sample t test is used to test significance of difference between a sample mean and a hypothesized value of the mean of the population.

Unpooled t test is used to test the significance of the difference between two population means from independent samples, if the sample variances are significantly different.

Pooled t test is used to test the significance of the difference between two population means from independent samples, if the sample variances are not significantly different.

Paired t test (also called dependent sample t test) is used to determine whether the mean difference between two sets of observations, where each subject is measured twice, resulting in pairs of observations.

Mann Whitney U test is used to compare the differences between two independent groups when the dependent variable is either ordinal or continuous but not normally distributed.
