2-2 Chemoautotrophic bacteria are responsible for the oxidation of NH:-N to NO -N in many biological wastewater treatment processes. These bacteria, collectively called nitrifiers, consist of the genera Nitrosomonar and Ntro- bacter. The oxidation of ammonia to nitrate is considered a two-step sequen- tial reaction as follows: overall reaction NIHI 2oNO- 2r -H,O Considering the overall reaction, use stoichiornetric calculations to show how many mg t of alkalinity as CaCos are destroyed and how many mgć of oa are required for the oxidation of 1 mg/l of NH4-N to NO,-N. 2-3 In denitrification Kan anaerobic respiration process), nitrates and nitrites
resulling in the production of a smaller quantity of waste sludge. Explain this characteristic on the basis of energy metabolism. 2-2 Chemoautotrophic bacteria are responsible for the oxidation of NH:-N to NOİ.N in many biological wastewater treatment processes. These bacteria, collectively called nitrifiers, consist of the genera Nitrosomonas and Nitro- bacter. The oxidation of ammonia to nitrate is considered a two-step sequen- tial reaction as foilows: 2NHİ + 30, Ntromnem, 2NOg + 4H' +2H20 Nltrebacter overall reaction NHİ + 20, Nitrifier. NOi + 2H+ + H2O onsidering the overall reaction, use stoichiometric calculations to show how many mgiC of alkalinity as CaCO, are destroyed and how many mglt of O2 are required for the oxidation of 1 mg/l of NHİ-N to NO-N.

Answer #1

For alkaiualy 202 2 18 V 84 20It would require 3.55mg/L of O2.

And can can destroy 3.33mg/L of CaCO3.

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
