my dnp test result was bright orange solid
tollens result was clear
chromic acid was orange
iodoform was clear/yellowish
i believe my unknown is ketone but im not sure

Dnp reacts with both aldehydes and ketones.

Tollens reagent is reduced by only aliphatic and aromatic aldehyde but not by ketones.

Since tollens' test was clear this means the unknown is not aldehyde. Infact it is ketone.

Since the colour of chromic acid was orange don't turned to green this means unknown is not aldehyde because in the presence of aldehyde the colour would have changed to green.

SO, OVERALL CONCLUSION IS 'THE UNKNOWN IS A KETONE'
