A design engineer gives you the following data for your standard product. You know from numerous previous samples that its reliable life is normally distributed with a mean of 335 days and a standard deviation of 19.2 days.

On a recent production run, she tested the duration of random samples with these results:

Sample 1 Sample 2 Sample 3 Sample 4
335.5 338.5 330.0 317.0
338.5 349.5 339.4 346.5
347.7 355.8 327.0 345.9

Answer #1

31. Average observed time = (113+124+119+113+119+120) / 6 =708/6 =118 seconds

Performance rating when worker works fast = 1+Fast%age = 1+34%=1.34

Normal time = Average observed time * Performance rating = 118 * 1.34 =158.1

32.

Average observed time = (117+124+116+129+111+126) / 6 =723/6 =120.5 seconds

AFday = 1/ (1-10%) = 1.11

Normal time = Average observed time * Performance rating* AFday = 120.5* 1.38*1.11 =184.6

Note - If you take AFday as 1.1, the answer will vary slightly, = 182.9 seconds.
