Titan is the largest moon of the saturn. It is also the second largest natural satelite. It was discovered by christiaan huygens in 1655. It comes at second position in size after jupitor's moon which is the largest in size. It is made up of rocks and ice. The present temperature of titan is very cold. The atmosphere of titan is very thick with a high amount of nitrogen.
Titan is thought to be habitable place because of the similar conditions like earth that prevail there. It possess large amounts of sub suface water and seasonal weather conditions.
The presence of methane, niterogen, hydrocarbons, water provides higher percentages of life on titan. At present, concentration of surface water is low but it may be present below the ice shell. Titan can support terrestial life. It can also support microbial life due to the presence of niterogen and methane.
The proposed missions are Titan mare explorer mission, which includes a discovery class lander will land in lake for detection of life. Source of this mission was by chris impey from university of arizona.Dragonfly rotorcraft probe mission, the lander will land in solid ground to access the rich organic sources of titan for supporting life. Dragonfly mission is of new frontiers class.
Presence of lakes, river, organic sources, rich atmosphere provides a lot of evidence for the life on titan. Possible missions will yield more information and in future, titan may become an inhabitable world.
