Difference between 2D, 3D and 4 axis machined parts

2D - In 2D low end routers are being used. Generally in 2D machining X-axis and Y- axis are used.

3D- This is most commonly used method. In 3D we use 8 foot long X axis, 4 foot long Y axis and 6 inches long Z axis.

4 axis- The 4th axis means the machine will be able to rotate about its vertical axis together with all the works performed by 2D and 3D axis. it is used in CNC lathe for mill work.
