SOLUTION

From given data,

The standard guidelines for fluid intake recommend that a 10–20-kg child should have 1000 mL of fluid plus 50 mL for each full kilogram of body weight over 10 kg per day. How many 8-ounce glasses of fluid should a 36 pound child have each day

36 pounds converted into kilograms is

1 pound=0.45 kg

so 36 pounds=36*0.453592 =16.329 kg ≈ 16 kg (16.329 kg is approximately equal to 16 kg)

Thus a 36 pound child weights when converted into kilograms is 16 kg

so the daily requirement of a 16 kg child=1000 ml of fluids

The no of 8 ounces glasses of fluid should 16 kg child should have per day is to be calculated

1 ounce = 29.5735 ml

8 ounces=8*29.5735 ml=236.59 ml

Thus 8 ounces glass of fluid in ml is equal to 236.59

Than,no of 8 ounces glasses of fluid a 36 pound child needs to intake each day=(1000/236.59)=4.23 glasses

As no of glasses can be an integral value only so rounding it off to the nearest integer that is 4.

Thus a 36 pound child needs to have 4 8-ounces glass of fluid per day to meet his daily requirements.
